Das (mittlerweile geschlossene und teilweise abgerissene) Bergwerk Sophia Jacoba befand sich in Hückelhoven, westlich von Mönchengladbach. Die Kohleregion, in der sich Sophia Jacoba befindet, ist zwischen dem Ruhrgebiet und der Aachener Kohleregion.
Das Bergwerk bestand aus vier Schachtanlagen: 1/3, 4/6, 5/7 und 8. Schachtanlage 4/6 war die Hauptförderanlage.
Zukünftige Nutzung
Die Zentralanlage 4/6 ist bereits abgerissen worden. Die Befahrungsanlage über Schacht 8 wird in die Saarregion zu einem neuen Wetterschacht des Bergwerks Ensdorf transloziert, der zur Zeit abgeteuft wird. Die Schachtanlage 1/3 wird teilweise als Industriemuseum erhalten bleiben, insbesondere der Förderturm über Schacht 1. Die Zukunft der Schachtanlage 5/7 ist unklar.
The (meanwhile closed and partly destructed) coal mine Sophia Jacoba was located in Hückelhoven, west of Mönchengladbach. The coal region where Sophia Jacoba is located is somewhere in the middle between the Ruhr Area and the Aachen Coal Region. The mine consisted of four sites: 1/3, 4/6, 5/7 and 8. The site 4/6 was the main site where coal has been lifted to the surface.
Future Use
The main site of Shafts 4/6 has already been destructed. The shaft house over Shaft 8 will be translocated to the Saar Region atop a new weather shaft of the Ensdorf coal mine which is currently being drilled. The site of Shafts 1/3 will partly remain as an industrial heritage, especially the winding tower atop Shaft 1. The fate of Shafts 5/7 is unknown.
